Tip 1 Fluff Up Your Bed

Fluffy pillows and a favorite blanket are two elements that can help give your bedroom a cozy feel. For the ultimate cozy feeling, wrap up in a warm, oversized blanket, lean back into a row of plush pillows, and relax.

Tip 2 Let the Outside In

This traditional bedroom, above, not only boasts a cozy fireplace, but also lovely French doors that take comfort up a notch and give direct access to outdoor living.

Tip 3 Choose a Soothing Color Palette

It's no secret that a light and serene palette is an easy way to set a calming tone in a room. Creamy neutrals for a bedroom color scheme allows you to add color and depth with accent fabrics, objects, and accessories. For instance, this relaxing country bedroom boasts a wood and iron canopy bed dressed in tan plaid bedding topped with gold damask pillows layered between white striped shams and a gray lumbar pillow. A gray linen skirted bench sits at the foot of the bed on a gray bound sisal rug below a zebra cowhide rug create layers and prevent the neutrals from feeling bland. It also allows you to change the look of your bedroom just by changing out a few accessories and pillows.

A range of cool blues and greens can also create a serene, soothing and sophisticated, yet unfussy look.

Tip 4 Select Cozy, Plush Bedding

No matter what your style may be, your bedroom can be a retreat like no other with layers of comfortable blankets, duvets, and pillows. If you live in an area that experiences a range of temperatures through the year, consider dressing your bed to make the most of each season and to maximize your comfort.

Comfy, plush bedding isn't reserved for the master bedroom. Even this sweet nursery/guest bedroom is a retreat outfitted with plush bedding worthy of a King.

Tip 5 Add a Fireplace

If your fortunate enough to incorporate a fireplace into your bedroom's floor plan, the crackle, warmth, and even the woodsy aroma of a fire can be enough to lull even the most anxious minds into a state of relaxation.  What a wonderful way to sit back and unwind and enjoy a relaxing evening with a great book. Be sure to consider furniture placement and your view of the fire when setting up the room's initial design.

Tip 6 Dress Your Windows

Lighting—especially natural light—plays a huge role in the overall feel of a room. Cover your windows with heavyweight, lined drapes to make sure you can control the amount of light in your bedroom when you're ready for total darkness. Or, as in the case in this bedroom windows are dressed with roman shades layered with ivory curtains. You can add a layer of sheers to offer privacy while still allowing light into the room during the day. When you're ready to enjoy the view, pull back the drapes and take in the scenery.

Tip 7 Create a Seating Nook

While we may spend the majority of our time in our bedrooms asleep, it's important to have other areas there for relaxation. Designate a window seat or chair for this purpose, and your bed can be used solely for sleep. Include an ottoman to prop up your feet, and make sure to have proper lighting to pore over your favorite books and magazines.

I think you deserve a little extra TLC!

Have a great day!
