Cottage Style Home Tour

The first style of my new series - Defining Your Decorating Style - this week was focused on cottage style living. Today I'm sharing how one homeowner incorporated the elements of cottage living in her home as a source of inspiration for you. I hope you enjoy!

This home is a cozy cottage farmhouse located in the foothills of California by Jenna Sue Design Co. (see more HERE), and featured on One Kind Design (see more HERE).

As I mentioned in my post on Tuesday (see HERE), cottage style doesn't follow rigid guidelines; instead, it's more of an attitude. It's about relaxation and resourcefulness, easy living and a sense of contentment.

Casual, comfortable and lighthearted, cottage style embraces imperfection and straddles both the past and the present through its mix of weathered furnishings and fresh simplicity.

Light and airy colors...slipcovered and comfortable furnishings...simple window treatments...

Mismatched, distressed, and painted furnishings...

Natural and simple...

Forgiving fabrics in delicate florals, ticking, stripes, gingham, eyelet...

Open shelving...

Beadboard and wood planking...

DIY and resourceful...

Casual and charming...

This home is a beautiful example of cottage style staples: budget finds, DIY creations, distressed and refinished furnishing, and the light and airy comforts that define casual living.

Knit pouf ottomans are hot right now. They work in any style where you want to add an element of comfort.  Here are three options for a similar look:

So what do you think? Does the casual, informal, breezy and welcoming look of cottage decor define your style?

Thank you for stopping by today.  See you next time.
