Ready-to-Wear Runway Trends for 2016

A comprehensive interpretation of runway fashions for 2016 is better left to the fashion bloggers, but from my research we should get ready for bold stripes and florals, ruffles, and statement jewelry.  Today I'm sharing six of my favorite trends and affordable ways to get these designer looks.

#1) MARLED KNITS

Jason Wu and Michael Kors have been previewing pretty marled knits in their 2016 collections. To get this textured trend, try the open-weave poncho above with fab fringe that amps up the style. It looks sensational with Boyfriend Jeans and Stilettos.

For statement pieces, the Silvia Stretch Belt and Drew Bangle from Chico's. Fallon Fringe Poncho, $99.00, Chicos.com

For a classic yet chic look, how about the marled knit sweater dress above from The Limited?  Polish off the look with heeled boots and a jolt of color - like a burgundy half moon purse (also a new trend in 2016) and a swipe of lipstick. Marled Cowl Neck Sweater Dress, on sale $74.99, Thelimited.com.

Start 2016 off in style wearing this neutral marled knit pullover from Chico's. The Jada Belt and Frangetta Fringe Bag polish off this outfit and look stunning with white jeans.

Pair it with Sini Earrings and Roxi Cuff as statement pieces - all from Chico's. Textured Sherri Pullover, $119.00, Chicos.com

Watch for sales. Right now, Chico's is having a buy 1 get 1 50% off on many items.

#2) MOODY FLORALS

Floral patterns blossom every spring.  This year from the runway, they are less soft, and more moody. Try paring delicate florals mixed with lace details on blouses and dark backgrounds on dresses. This short-sleeve graphic floral dress would look stylish with a black moto jacket to give it extra edge, or a bright colored lacy sweater for work.  Worthing Short Sleeve Floral Sheeth Dress, $39.99, JCPenney.com.

#3) DID SOMEONE SAY DENIM?

Did someone say denim? Only Chanel, Victoria Beckham, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, and more...according to Vogue.

This chic denim jacket is an effortless layering piece that will add so much style. Worn with ankle pants and flat shoes, it doesn't get much better. Denim Jacket, $109.00, Chicos.com

Flared legged, or not - doesn't matter when it comes to denim jeans in 2016. Grab a wear-everywhere wrap-around jacket cinched with a belt to complete this look.

You'll find the pieces from the two trendy looks above here.
#4) BOLD STRIPES

Stripes are a perennial fashion trend.  But the more common dainty Breton stripes we see appear in spring are being usurped by wide, colorful stripes. A sure way to freshen up your closet. Short-Sleeve Structured Ponte Top, $27.94, Oldnavy.com

This Striped Envelope Neck Sweater is a tastefully chic look with versatile potential. Ideas are limitless with this trend. Striped Envelope Neck Sweater, $59.95, Thelimited.com.

#5) NEAT PLEATS

A little bit preppy, a little bit dainty, knife pleats are re-emerging for 2016. Loft has a darling take on the trend with a pleated flippy dress in burgundy with long sleeves and a flattering drop waist. For a fashion-forward combo, combine burgundy with a bold, azure blue accessory for an unexpected color palette.  Pleated Flippy Dress, $79.50 (plus Cash Back), Loft.com

#6) RUFFLE UP YOUR WARDROBE

Everything Victorian! From ruffles on dresses to subtle ruffles at hemlines, the feminine detail is a designer favorite for 2016. The soft ruffles on the sleeve and at the hemline on this shift dress transform it. CeCe By Cynthia, $138, Nordstrom.com

When it comes to fashion, here is some good advice from Nordstrom: "I love the idea of basics that truly work as the most beautiful base - from there, you layer in what's you."
