I would be amiss if I did not honor our veterans today and in some way extend my appreciation for the many sacrifices made on behalf of the freedoms we enjoy. Either through a great-grandfather, grandfather, uncle, father, brother, sister...every family shares in one way or another a sacrifice that has been made or continues to be given on behalf of this great country and the blessings we enjoy because of these great sacrifices. I share this message with you in remembrance of my uncle Private First Class George Chris Bolotas who was 19 years old when he was killed during the Korean War, and later awarded the Purple Heart for his heroic service.
Private First Class Bolotas was a member of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in Korea on November 16, 1951. Private First Class Bolotas was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
